Since the last exhibition in Tokyo, we had the opportunity to meet our partners and talk to them about the latest trends. With the arrival of summer, the desire changes, that’s the reason why we present you a few top trends in graphic design in 2023: Today’s trends are: Opulence, Mysticism, Punk, Line Art, Experimental escapism. ๐Ÿ™Œ 

The Opulence Graphic Design:

One of the top trends actually is the Opulence, a new design that contrasts with the minimalist style that evokes luxury. And that makes us feel like kings. The dominant color of this style is the bright Magenta, and Gold adds to those warm polished metals of shiny gold pieces.

The Mysticism Graphic Design:

In graphic design also we have some novelties, what was old is new again. The Mysticism, that doesn’t talk to you don’t worry! We will tell you more about it! Mysticism is iconography in relation with astrology and divination. This trend relies heavily on popular symbols. Like Zodiac signs, 3rd eye or lotus flowers. As in the past these symbols act as talismans, giving the natural and celestial world a deep occult significance.   

A purely visual point of view, there is an inherent softness to these minimalist designs. They are built with fine lines and light and delicate organic curves. Colors are soothing when attenuated by less saturated tones.

And the imagery of moons, stars and meditative faces evokes an edifying peace, and escape from earthly concerns that offers hope and comfort. This is what gives this trend its appeal to the general public: it is not necessary to believe in tarot cards to feel the serenity of mystical grounds.

Punk Graphic Design style:

Let’s move to England with the next popular trend, some of you may already guess? The Punk movement was born in the 1970s and it never left since. This revolutionary movement was born during and because of the persistent unemployment it never left again. Leaving everyone the possibility to oppose the system in an authoritarian way. This unique style of rebellion is once again popular in 2023.

The punk style is characterized by the “Do it yourself” which consist of sticking chaotically add or cut letters that do not match each other. Punk is above all the rejection of society, opulence and any symmetry or beauty. The punk style often highlights dominant bright colors, not having disorder and honesty are the values of the punk style.  

The Line Art graphic design:

The next European trend is Line Art like in the title of this design the aim is to draw a design just by working with a line. Its minimalist design creates illustrations that are humorous and fun. This retro style is reminiscent of the 1950s. This style recreates a nostalgic memory of drawing with pencils.

The simplicity of this movement can be associated with a caricature style. This trend is naturally used to convey light messages.

Experimental escapism graphic design:

To conclude this episode of the top trends in Europe, we will talk about something that looks new but in fact this design has existed for a long time. The experimental escapism design: We dive into the fantasy world, with imaginary worlds. This design was created in 2022 and still popular in 2023!  

This experience is the result of research on new technologies stimulated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). New designers find their inspiration in experimentation.

It’s through this new way of expression that we can see the depth of the thought and particularly the will of escaping from reality. Because of the global economic pressures, an escalating climate crisis, a war in Europe and increasing austerity. Because of the interactions with the consumers in terms of design the need is: an escape.

If you are really into the top design trends in Europe and in the world. You probably already heard about the Maison & Objet fair. Famous since 1995, this event takes place twice a year, and every year this fair brings more visitors from all around the world. Furniture, objects: traditional or high tech, the designer’s expression is transmitted at every moment through each realization. Coming to Maison&Objet is not just about discovering trends, it’s about opening up to others to share your story. A story that takes place north of Paris in Villepinte divided into 7 halls has different themes.

This year the main theme of Maison & Objet will be “quest of pleasures” proudly displaying colors, extravagance, audacity and humor as many added values of this new edition.
