SPEXTRUM과 한국의 최대 종합제지사 '한솔제지'의 협업으로 만들어진 이 제품은 '영감'과 '종이'를 결합한 한솔의 인스퍼 매직칼라 페이퍼로 제작되었습니다. 익숙한 자와 각도기를 ‘종이' 라는 소재로 새롭게 해석한 페이퍼 룰러 키트는 측정을 위한 기능과 상상을 위한 여백을 함께 담아 책상 위에 자연스럽게 놓이도록 제작했습니다. 가벽고 부드러운 종이의 감각, 다채로운 컬러와 단순한 형태는 도구이자 오브제가 되며 상상을 꺼내는 시작점이됩니다.    

Created through a collaboration between SPEXTRUM and Hansol Paper, Korea’s leading comprehensive paper manufacturer, this product is made from INSper Magic Color Paper, a premium paper line whose name combines the words Inspiration and Paper. The Paper Ruler Kit reinterprets familiar rulers and protractors through the medium of paper, combining practical measuring functions with space for imagination. Designed to sit naturally on a desk, it serves as both a functional tool and a subtle object within everyday life. The lightweight and soft tactile quality of paper, paired with vibrant colors and simple forms, transforms each piece into both a tool and an object. More than a measuring device, it becomes a starting point for ideas, creativity, and new possibilities.

Background

한솔제지의 인스퍼 매직칼라의 다채로운 매력과 미래지향적 가치를 연결하는 방법에서 출발했습니다. 생산 과정에서 발생하는 자투리 종이를 단순한 잔여 소재가 아닌 새로운 가능성을 가진 자원으로 해석하고, 생산 과정에서 발생하는 자투리 종이에 새로운 역할과 쓰임을 부여하는 데 주목했습니다.

We began by exploring ways to connect the vibrant character of Hansol Paper's INSper Magic Color with its forward-looking values. Rather than viewing the offcuts generated during the production process as simple waste material, we reinterpreted them as resources with new potential and focused on giving these leftover papers a renewed purpose and function.

매직칼라 생산 과정에서 발생하는 자투리 종이를 활용해 다양하게 활용 가능한 자 키트를 제작했습니다.
직선자, 삼각자, 각도기 등 각기 다른 형태의 자는 매직칼라의 다채로운 색상만큼 다양한 가능성을 상징합니다. 버려질 수 있었던 종이에 새로운 기능과 가치를 더해, 자연스럽고 실용적인 재활용의 방식을 제안했습니다.

By utilizing paper offcuts generated during the production of Magic Color, we developed a versatile Paper Ruler Kit. Comprising a straight ruler, triangle ruler, and protractors, each tool reflects the diverse possibilities embodied by Magic Color’s vibrant range of colors.
By giving new function and value to paper that would otherwise be discarded, the project proposes a practical and natural approach to recycling. It demonstrates how production waste can be transformed into meaningful tools while celebrating both the material's versatility and its potential for a more sustainable future.

이러한 접근은 직선자, 삼각자, 각도기 등 다양한 형태의 자를 제작하는 아이디어로 이어졌습니다. 매직칼라 생산 과정에서 발생한 자투리 종이를 활용해 실용적인 측정 도구를 만들고, 버려질 수 있었던 소재에 새로운 기능과 가치를 부여했습니다. 이를 통해 자연스럽고 실용적인 자원 순환의 가능성을 제안했습니다.

This approach led to the development of a Paper Ruler Kit featuring a straight ruler, triangle ruler, and protractors. By repurposing paper offcuts generated during the production of Magic Color into practical measuring tools, the project gives discarded materials a new function and value. Through this process, it proposes a natural and practical approach to resource circulation.

Color Composition

측정이라는 동일한 기능 안에 다양한 색의 가능성을 담았습니다. 각 키트는 매직칼라의 여러 색상을 조합하여 제작되며, 모두 서로 다른 색 구성을 가집니다. 우연히 선택된 색의 조합은 책상 위에 작은 개성을 더하고, 매일의 작업 환경에 새로운 장면을 만들어냅니다.

Within a single function of measurement, we sought to capture the possibilities of diverse colors.
Each kit is produced using a unique combination of Magic Color papers, resulting in a distinct color composition for every set. The unexpected pairing of colors brings a subtle sense of individuality to the desktop, creating a new visual experience within everyday work environments.
By combining functionality with the vibrant character of Magic Color, each ruler kit becomes more than a measuring tool—it becomes a small expression of creativity and personality.
